About The Crux

The Crux is a 6,300 square foot indoor climbing gym providing almost 9000 square feet of big wall climbing and 3200 square feet of bouldering to rock climbers. Located in Calgary’s North East, around Barlow and 16th Avenue, the Crux stands as a monolithic structure. The view from the top floor of the Crux is spectacular. Soon, spectators and climbers can break from climbing to marvel out a top window to an unobstructed view of downtown Calgary and the Rocky Mountains.

The Crux is designed for rock climbers training for outdoor climbing and competitions. It is also an alternative to a regular workout gym, designed for people looking for new methods of exercise. Climbing is challenging mentally and physically. It combines mental prowess, balance, flexibility, and strength.

It's Big

At a height of 72 feet for top rope climbing, the Crux is one of the tallest indoor climbing facilities in the world. With a possibility of building a 96 foot lead climbing wall, the Crux would become one of the highest indoor climbing gyms in North America. Not only is this attractive to the thrill-seeking climber, the Crux hopes to draw attention from international competitions and events such as the X-Games.

Bouldering

As bouldering continues to increase in popularity amongst training climbers, the Crux will offer climbers a broad variety of problems, features, overhangs, and challenges that will entertain and inspire loyalty in our customer base.

Top-rope and Lead Climbing

In addition to 3,400 sq ft of bouldering, there are two, 72 foot climbing towers. The Everest tower and K2 tower provide over 8,600 sq feet of climbing and include top rope, lead climbing and multi-pitch climbing opportunities ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert.

Multipitch Climbing

The Crux will be the only indoor rock climbing gym where climbers can practice multi-pitch techniques and skills. Due to its similarity to the height of most outdoor climbing routes, and the popularity of multi-pitch mountain faces throughout North America, the Crux will be an excellent training location during the winter.

Easy Viewing

The fourth side (middle section) of each tower is attached to the 5-story centre stair well. The stair well is outfitted with viewing patios on every level allowing spectators to view climbers at every stage of their indoor epic. Further, these unique viewing platforms will be of great advantage to coaches and camera operators.
